For the past three months I have been using a textbook called, “Military Geography for the Professionals and the Public.” This is really good overview of Military Geography and you can buy it for an affordable price on Amazon. It goes over physical, cultural, land, and sea. If you are looking for a authoritative textbook on Military Geography I highly recommend this one.
Hello, my name is Daniel Yun. I am a new member in the Military Geography Project. I am a first-year undergraduate student at UND studying geography. This semester I am conducting a military geography project focusing on Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater of World War II. I am looking forward to work with Daniel and Dr. Munski this semester. To conclude, I will post my status on the Guadalcanal project and useful information on this website.
Well, Stuart finished his work for the semester and seemed to enjoy it. His focus was on the Nez Perce War of 1877 and he did an outstanding job. I will post his material soon, once I figure out how to do so and get his approval. Way to go Stuart.
This is a new semester and the Project will be gearing up, as Stuart Lawrence will be doing work in military geography this semester. I will be also updating the site, as we progress through this semester, because I will sit in on meetings when appropriate. I look forward to Stuart’s work and contribution to this project.
As I have finished my MA and am now working on my Ph.D. still at UND, I have not had as much time for this site as I would like. However, in a couple months, this site will hopefully have new life in it, as Stuart Lawrence, a fellow doctoral student at UND is planning to take a seminar with Dr. Munski dealing with military geography. I am going to allow him the use of this site for his work, which will be quite good and hopefully will breathe new life into the site. I will let you know more once work commences.
Greetings everyone. My deep apologies for not updating the site for over a year, but with finishing my MA last August to completing a year of coursework for a Ph.D. in History (I am still at UND), I have not had the time to work on the bibliography as much, but I do think about it from time to time. I would love to have any geographers who are interested in this field to consider helping out with the site, including contributing to the bibliography, so if you are interested, please use the contact page located in the navigation bar at the top of the page. Until next time, keep researching.
For those of you wondering what has happened to the site, I am still here. I have been busy with writing my thesis, which takes precedence over this project right now. Hopefully, once the summer arrives and the thesis is complete, I will be able to devote time to working with this project.
I thought I would share with you that Tim and I presented our posters at the 2008 Graduate School Scholarly Forum at UND. Many people stopped by our posters and posed questions and Tim and I made the 6PM news the night before, as we were filmed while checking on our posters. Dr. Munski has pictures that I will post some day. Overall, it was a great experience.
While I am home visiting my parents, I thought I would take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to those of you who do not celebrate Christmas. In addition, I thought I would share with you what my plans are with this site. The semester course has been completed and I am quite satisfied, as it has given me much to think about as far as continuing on with this site. I will continue to consult with Dr. Munski, as I do seek to update and complete this site. The biggest aspect yet to finish is the bibliography, which will need to undergo some revisions before it is posted here. Finally, the other thing yet to accomplish with this site is to see if the officers and/or other scholars associated with the Military Geography specialty group of the AAG are willing to help me with improving and maintaining this website. I will keep you updated as often as time allows, but with my thesis being written this semester, updates may be fewer and farther between, so please bear with me, as this is a fun project that I want to continue. Again, Happy Holidays and I will update you next time.
The semester has come to the end, but that does not mean that this project will end. I will consult with Dr. Munski to gauge interest from the Military Geography Specialty Group of the AAG for helping me with this site and possibly taking a major role in it. The bibliography will continue when I have time between writing my thesis. It has been an awesome semester and I hope to turn this project into something big. Updates will not be as regular, but I will keep up with this as best as possible. It has been a great pleasure to update you on the progress of this work.
